The Sublime Nature of the Great Compassion Mantra

Proclaimed by Guan Yin Bodhisattva (Avalokiteshvara) for the peace and benefit of all beings, the Great Compassion Mantra embodies boundless wisdom, limitless compassion, and the essence of all Buddhist teachings. It is both the voice and the vow of Guan Yin’s great compassionate heart.

The Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes

In ancient eons, upon hearing this mantra, Guan Yin Bodhisattva vowed:

“May I be endowed with a thousand hands and a thousand eyes to benefit all beings.” At that moment, the vow was fulfilled — a thousand hands and eyes appeared, symbolizing infinite wisdom and countless skillful means to rescue those in suffering. The Great Compassion Mantra is thus the living sound of Guan Yin’s compassionate vow.

A Gateway of Blessing and Peace

Chanting the Great Compassion Mantra connects us directly with Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s compassionate vows. When recited with sincerity, it brings peace, protection, and immeasurable blessings to all who uphold it.

May all beings be free from suffering and attain peace and joy.
