Weekend 3-day Retreat Led by Rebecca Li

In this retreat, Dr. Rebecca Li will guide retreatants in the practice of Chan meditation.  She will explain how to practice sitting meditation, covering topics ranging from sitting posture, through various ways to practice the breath method, to helpful mental attitudes to support one’s meditation. Dharma talks are designed to help practitioners investigate the mind. Dr. Li will also guide retreatants through Chan practice in motion and offer private interviews to discuss issues related to one’s practice both in and outside the retreat.

Friday, April 15  6:00 pm – 7:45 pm Saturday, April 16 8:00 am – 9:00 pm Sunday, April 17  8:00 am – 3:00 pm

Format: Online via Zoom

A quiet space free from disturbances for the duration of the retreat is highly recommended. Once you send in your registration, you will hear from us within a week whether you have been accepted or not. IF ACCEPTED, please make your payment for the retreat to reserve your spot. This retreat will offer only limited space.

Technical requirements: Desktop, laptop computer or cellphone with a camera, sufficient bandwidth to stay on for the entire day.

Dr. Rebecca Li, a Dharma heir in the lineage of Chan Master Sheng Yen, is the founder and guiding teacher of Chan Dharma Community.  She started practicing with Master Sheng Yen in the 1990s and served as his translator until his passing in 2009.  She later trained with and received full Dharma transmission from one of his Dharma heirs, Dr. Simon Child, in 2016. Currently, she teaches meditation and Dharma classes, gives public lectures, and leads retreats in North America and the UK. Her talks and writings can be found at www.rebeccali.org.  She is a sociology professor at The College of New Jersey, where she also serves as faculty director of the Alan Dawley Center for the Study of Social Justice.  Her new book is titled Allow Joy into Our Hearts: Chan Practice in Uncertain Times.
